Who Were The Nephilim?

The Nephilim have several meanings to their names depending on the verse one takes to gather its meaning.

The official definition in the Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia is: A biblical race of giants or demigods

Pronounced: Neph-i-lim

Many researchers believe the Nephilim were giants, while others gather the word stems from the meaning, “the fallen.” Common references to this race of beings include the “daughters of men”, “sons of God”, “fallen angels”, and “watchers”.

There are also many references to “giant offspring” of the Nephilim in various cultures such as Anakim, Naphidim and Elijo.

There have been many references to “giant” skeletons and skulls surfacing around the world believed to be this ancient giant race.

Nephilim History

Many believe the descendants from the Nephilim people are still living today. While others believe the great flood wiped them out, even though some references in the Bible say they remained even after the flood. It is possible that they interbred with others during that time and there are ancient nephilim blood lines still intact today. The idea that the Nephilim remained on the Earth after the flood comes from a Genesis chapter 6 reference which we will cover later in this article.

The notion of ancient bloodlines still existing today is also a popular theme in Annunaki references in Ancient Sumerian text. The Anunnaki are an ancient alien race, also referenced as a race of giants that interbred with humans.

Many ancient cultures have references or carvings depicting their gods as giant creatures or humanoids of giant stature.

Nephilim Giants and Religious References

The origin of the Nephilim giants can be found in the Bible. They were first heard of in the book of Genesis where it talks about the giants roaming the Earth. The flood that God put on the Earth was partly due to the acts of the Nephilim giants. Since there were practicing “evil ways”, the Lord felt that he needed to rid the Earth of all the sin by spreading the great flood.

There are many other religious references including “The Children of Seth (God) which were called Bene Ha-Elohim, and their offspring were also referenced as the Anakim.

The New American Bible commentary draws parallels to the Epistle of Jude and statements from Book of Genesis suggesting the paternity of Nephilim as heavenly beings who came to earth and interbred with human women.

The most literal reference is found in Genesis 6:4

“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” New International Version (©2011)

On top of references in the Bible, there are many instances of “Giant” references in various cultures around the world often are attributed to the Nephilim or Anunnaki.

Supernatural and powerful humanoid beings are also common in Indian mythology. One such reference is that of the Rakshasa. In Indonesian and Malaysian, “raksasa” means “giant”, “gigantic”, or “huge and strong”.

There are Islamic references to The Jinn, who are spiritual creatures which made up one of the 3 sapient creations of God: ( The Jinn, Humans, and Angels )

Proof of Nephilim

Many believe the proof of Nephilim beings is contained in the references in the bible, while others make references to mythology in many different cultures around the world.

Others believe there is proof by the discovery of giant fossils and skeletons. In fact throughout history there have been giant skeletons uncovered referenced as proof of the ancient giant race. It is believed that the bones found in New York in 1705 may have been from the Nephilim when washed away by the great flood.

Nephilim Today – Walking Among Us Again?

Many people question if there are any Nephilim today roaming the Earth. It is very possible that the Nephilim people interbred with others and had offspring. Descendants may be found today that could trace back to the Nephilim from centuries ago.

The Nephilim are said to be descendants of the Anak or Anunnaki people. When natural disasters occur today, many people question if this is another sign of the clearing of corruption that took place many years ago with the flooding.
